The Story
I am the Shadowed Sovereign, keeper of this realm's memory, and no house in my hall has made more noise or heard less of it than Thor Rantherock. He calls himself the God of Thunder and Chaos, and he carries a hammer and an unshakeable belief in his own research. He is a trash talker with an aging roster and a conviction that the realm has simply not yet understood him. It is hard to play against him, he says, and it is even harder to play for him. The realm has never quite decided whether this is a threat or a warning.
In the first season he finished 2-11 and became the first Snurg Gurgler, the shame of the realm, and his punishment was a calendar photo shoot. But there is a redemptive power in the Snurg, and the God of Thunder rose from it. In 2020 he came roaring back, took the top seed in the NFC with a 9-4 record, three games clear of the field, and fell in the NFC Championship by ten. He finished third in the realm, and it remains the highest finish of his career, the closest the God of Thunder has ever come to the Throne. For one winter the realm wondered if the Snurg had made him stronger than any of them. In 2021 he drafted Jaylen Waddle with the eleventh pick, and the rookie broke the reception record, but Derrick Henry's broken foot sank a 6-1 start and the season slipped away on a tiebreaker. In the Legacy Year the thunder was quieter. What became of that year I keep in shadow.
The second cycle was a hard one. He has not stood as close to the Throne as he did in 2020, and the playoffs stayed beyond his reach, year after year, and a lesser god would have laid down his hammer and left the field. The God of Thunder is not a lesser god. The aging roster has not been cast aside, and the belief has not faded, and in a league that is long and cruel he has already risen once from the bottom of the realm. The realm remembers that. To close out the Legacy Year, Thor Rantherock is looking to bring the thunder back and prove that redemption is still his to claim. The season is still being played, and its story is not yet written, but I am always watching.
